The Challenge
The decision to install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at the Blockleys brickworks site in Telford was the result of a thorough and detailed review of the site’s energy consumption data. This in-depth analysis revealed that the facility was consuming a significant amount of energy on a regular basis. Recognising the potential for considerable energy savings and environmental benefits, the management team decided that investing in solar PV technology would be a strategic and forward-thinking solution. This move not only aims to reduce the site’s overall energy costs but also aligns with broader sustainability goals by reducing the carbon footprint associated with the brick manufacturing process.
The Approach
Following a comprehensive technical site survey, NSI Energy identified that the available roof space was suitable for a solar photovoltaic (PV) installation. A subsequent structural survey was conducted, which confirmed that the roof had the necessary strength and capacity to support the additional load that the proposed solar PV system would impose. Working in close conjunction with the client the proposed timescale for the project was agreed at 6-8 weeks, and with constant communication between all stakeholders the project was delivered successfully and safely within the time lines agreed.
The Outcome
NSI Energy provided a turnkey solar solution, meticulously engineered to meet the specific requirements of Blockleys brickworks. With a focus on maximising on-site generation, the generated solar power will be utilised exclusively within the facility, contributing to operational efficiency and sustainability goals.
This 632kW installation included 1264×500 long solar panels, 490kW of Solis inverters and K2 systems GmbH mountings.
Blockleys will save over 130 tonnes of carbon emissions each year, which is the equivalent of planting more than 6000 mature trees.
